Odds ‘n Ends

This page is for all the stuff that has no place in a particular category.  Enjoy the following tidbits of information:

Take a look at this picture.  If you’re clueless, this picture is of Curt Day, three-time world champion (left) and Elmer Hohl, six-time world champion (right).  The picture was taken at the 1975 World Horseshoe Tournament in LaFayette, Indiana.  Curt Day was defending his title, which he won in 1974.  Elmer Hohl won the title this particular year.  But, Curt did win this particular game pictured below.   If you’ll look at the top right side of the picture in the stands, at the last person sitting in the second row from the top, you’ll see Mary Blum, and sitting next to her behind Elmer Hohl’s head is Ed Blum.

Also, if you notice the platforms on which the opponents are pitching from, you’ll notice something strange about the foul lines.  They’re raised.  An old NHPA rule stated that courts had to have raised foul lines.  The rule was thrown out after everybody tripped over them.

The picture below is of the patch for the 1976 World Tournament that was held in Levittown, Pennsylvania.

This next picture is a good shot of Danny Kuchcinski, three-time world champion from Erie, Pennsylvania.  As of today, he is Pennsylvania’s only Men’s World Champion.  Danny won the World Title in 1967, 1969, and 1970.

The following is a pamphlet published at the 1976 World Tournament in Levittown, Pennsylvania advertising the type of play that was scheduled for the Championship Mens class.
